💨 Abstract

The Ontario government is introducing the Better Regional Governance Act, which allows the province to appoint regional chairs with enhanced powers in eight major regional governments. These appointees will have authority to appoint or fire senior staff, veto bylaws, and propose budgets independently. The act also reduces the size of Niagara regional council from 32 to 12 members and Simcoe County council from 32 to 17 members.
