Dame Maureen Lipman, 78, who plays Evelyn Plummer in Coronation Street, is engaged to David Turner. She revealed that she asked him for his hand during a train journey, on the Jewish minor festival of Tu B'Av. The actress will take a sabbatical from the soap later this year to star in Richmond Theatre's pantomime, Beauty and the Beast.
