💨 Abstract
American Airlines flight 298 nearly crashed into a mountain in Hawaii shortly after takeoff. An air traffic controller instructed the pilot to make a sudden climb and turn, likely preventing the collision. The FAA stated the crew did not make the assigned turn, but American Airlines maintained that they followed instructions and there were no terrain clearance issues. The plane safely landed in Los Angeles seven hours later.
