💨 Abstract
A 18-carat gold pocket watch presented to Captain Rostron, who rescued 700 passengers from the Titanic, has been sold for a record-breaking £1.56 million at an auction in Devizes, Wiltshire. The watch was previously owned by the wife of John Jacob Astor, who was the richest passenger on the ship and perished in the disaster.
