💨 Abstract
The Usutu virus, spread by mosquitoes and exacerbated by climate change, is causing a significant decline in blackbird populations in parts of Britain. First detected in the UK in 2020, the virus has led to a 40% drop in Greater London's blackbird population and has spread to other regions. The virus, though mostly harming birds, poses a low risk to humans, primarily those with compromised immune systems.
