💨 Abstract

Retailers have recently suffered from persistent cyber attacks, with Marks & Spencer, Co-op, Harrods, and Peter Green Chilled among the victims. These attacks, linked to the hacking collective Scattered Spider, often involve simple social engineering tactics rather than sophisticated methods. Hackers breach systems, infect backups, and then trigger ransomware, causing extensive disruption and financial loss which may amount to about £3.5million per day in the case of M&S.
