💨 Abstract

South Western Railway (SWR) is the first train operator to return to public ownership as part of the government's Great British Railways reforms. This move, which allows for government intervention when franchises expire, follows a period of private ownership since the 1990s. The nationalisation aims to improve punctuality, cleanliness, WiFi, and seating comfort, but no immediate changes to ticket prices are promised.
