💨 Abstract

The author reflects on the societal pressure to value women based on their looks, especially in their youth. She notes that by her late 30s she feels invisible, which she decides is a perfect disguise for espionage. This transition is akin to a bereavement. Having relied on her appearance for confidence and validation, she now struggles with the shift. She aims to pass on to her daughter the lesson that worth and success come from much more than just looks.
