💨 Abstract

A network of 150-year-old Victorian tunnels has been discovered near two large sinkholes in Godstone, Surrey, after part of the high street collapsed in February. Engineers are using laser surveys to map the tunnels, which have reportedly absorbed collapsed rubble from the sinkholes. The town's fiber network is functional, and a pedestrian route is planned to reopen soon. Residents have criticized the council for taking months to confirm the known history of the mine tunnels.
