💨 Abstract
Sainsbury's is trialing electronic shelf-edge labels (ESLs) in several stores, including Witney and Epsom, to remotely update prices, potentially replacing traditional paper labels. This trial follows similar efforts by other retailers like Asda, Waitrose, Co-op, and Company Shop. If successful, ESLs could lead to the end of paper labels in supermarkets, joining barcodes in a potential phase-out as QR codes gain traction.
