💨 Abstract

An alarming discovery occurred when tenants in a Newcastle home found a hidden 'homemade' camera within a bathroom smoke alarm. The device was reportedly designed to slip in place of the actual smoke alarm, remaining unseen. Discovering it raised fears of privacy invasion for more than a year. Officers from Northumbria Police are investigating, noting the camera appears to lack recording capabilities. The property management has also taken steps to ensure further hidden cameras and currently working on mitigation by taking additional safety measures.
