💨 Abstract
A fire at Heathrow Airport's electrical substation, caused by unaddressed moisture in a transformer since 2018, led to a complete shutdown on March 21. The National Energy System Operator's (Neso) report attributed the fire to a short circuit due to moisture entering the transformer's bushing. Despite an elevated moisture reading detected in 2018 and again in 2022, the necessary maintenance was deferred, resulting in the catastrophic failure.
