💨 Abstract

In Coconino County, Arizona, a person died from bubonic plague, the first such case in the US in eight years. The victim had contact with an infected animal. The plague, caused by Yersinia pestis, is rare in humans, with an average of seven US cases annually. Health officials advise avoiding contact with wild animals and fleas, and removing potential rodent habitats. Symptoms include swollen lymph nodes and appear within days of exposure.
