💨 Abstract
Japanese researchers from the National Institute of Information and Communications Technology (NICT) achieved the record-breaking internet speed of 1.02 petabits per second (Pbit/s) over 1,808 kilometers. This speed is 4.6 million times faster than the UK’s average of 223 megabits per second (Mbps), enough to download an equivalent of Netflix within 16 seconds.
