💨 Abstract

Greater Manchester Mayor Andy Burnham unveiled plans for an underground railway to address the city's growing transport needs by 2050. The proposed network, centered around Piccadilly railway station, aims to augment the existing surface transport systems, which are nearing capacity. While previous similar plans, including the "Picc-Vic" tube, were scrapped due to cost, Burnham emphasized the need for planning and government support to finance this ambitious project.
