💨 Abstract

The author recounts their experience with colorism within their Somali community in London, particularly how it affected their enjoyment of summer and outdoor activities like running. Initially, they avoided the sun to prevent tanning, influenced by family and community comments. Discovering the term "colorism" helped them overcome this bias, and they began embracing outdoor activities. Despite occasional negative remarks, they now run outdoors and are preparing for a half marathon, prioritizing their happiness and well-being over societal prejudices.
