💨 Abstract
The UK and France have agreed to a deal starting today that aims to deter migrants crossing the English Channel in small boats. Under this 'one in, one out' policy, adult migrants arriving illegally will be returned to Europe, with the UK taking in an asylum seeker from Europe in return. The British government hopes this will reduce the number of dangerous crossings, but critics argue the plan is ineffective.
