💨 Abstract
The UK may update road safety laws to require drivers over 70 to pass an eye test and to lower the drink-driving limit in England and Wales to match Scotland's. These proposals, part of a new road safety strategy, also include tougher penalties for uninsured drivers and seatbelt violators, and prosecuting drunk drivers based on roadside saliva tests. Motoring groups support these changes, citing stagnant road fatality numbers despite improvements before 2010.
