💨 Abstract

A gigantic blob of molten rock, named the Northern Appalachian Anomaly, is slowly moving southwest beneath the Eastern US at 12 miles per million years. Located 124 miles underground, this thermal anomaly does not pose an immediate threat to New York City, as its center won't reach there for 15 trillion years. The blob is intriguingly young, formed about 90 million years ago when Greenland and Canada separated.
