💨 Abstract
John Legend initially used his birth name, John Roger Stephens, before adopting his stage name. After impressing spoken-word artist J. Iby with his work on Kanye West’s *The College Dropout*, he was dubbed "the Legend." He faced a legal hurdle when a porn producer named Johnny Legend threatened trademark infringement. They negotiated a deal to avoid confusion. Legend signed with Columbia Records in 2004 and became a Grammy-winning superstar, later achieving EGOT status.
