💨 Abstract

The UK government's draft guidance allows young trans and non-binary children to socially transition, such as using different pronouns, with school and parental agreement. However, social transition in primary schools should be rare, and decisions may not always align with the child's wishes. The guidance also mandates that schools record the sex assigned at birth and be aware of students who may socially transition without the school's knowledge. Trans pupils will not be allowed to use facilities aligning with their gender identity.
