💨 Abstract

A new dinosaur species, Spinosaurus mirabilis, nicknamed the 'hell-heron,' was discovered in the Sahara. Its skull's resemblance to mythical dragons sparked fascination. Led by Paul Sereno, the team found the fossils, revealing this predator was likely a wader rather than fully aquatic. The discovery, published in Science, is the first new spinosaurid species in over a century. The fossils will be displayed at the Chicago Children’s Museum to inspire young scientists.
