💨 Abstract

Japan is introducing the Japan Electronic System for Travel Authorization (JESTA) by 2028, similar to the US ESTA, for visitors from 74 countries, including the UK. This system will require tourists to apply and be approved before travel, potentially costing around £30. It aims to streamline airport arrivals by eliminating the need for passport stamps. Additionally, Kyoto is increasing its tourist tax, with higher rates for more expensive accommodations.
