💨 Abstract

The BBC considered merging CBBC with CBeebies to save costs, but ultimately decided against it due to political and cultural concerns. The broadcaster needs to save £500 million by 2028 and has already announced the closure of BBC Three, BBC Scotland, and BBC Radio 4 Extra, along with job cuts at BBC News. The merger was deemed too risky amid ongoing charter negotiations and the importance of children's services to the culture secretary.
