💨 Abstract
The Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) has approved TerraPower, a startup founded by Bill Gates, to build a new nuclear reactor in Wyoming. This is the first such permit issued by the NRC in nearly a decade. The Natrium reactor, designed with GE Vernova Hitachi, will generate 345 megawatts and is cooled by molten sodium, which TerraPower claims is safer. The reactor aims to store excess energy as heat, helping to lower generating costs.
