The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has clarified that there is no decision yet on nationwide implementation of satellite-based tolling, contrary to media reports. The ministry plans to implement a barrier-less tolling system at selected toll plazas using Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) and FASTag technology from May 1, 2025. This system will allow vehicles to be charged without stopping at toll plazas.
