💨 Abstract
India's automotive trade is heavily skewed towards low-demand segments like motorcycles and tractors, rather than high-demand passenger vehicles, according to NITI Aayog. India captures only 1% of the global passenger vehicle market and a negligible share in electric vehicles. The country's automotive exports have grown slowly, while imports have increased faster. To boost its global trade position, India needs to lower tariffs, encourage two-way trade, and focus on high-demand segments like passenger vehicles and EVs.
