💨 Abstract
The population of butterflies in the United States has decreased by more than a fifth this century, according to a study spanning hundreds of species. The decline is attributed to habitat loss, pesticide use, and climate change. Among the 342 butterfly species with sufficient data, about a third sustained losses, with some species, like the Florida white and Hermes copper, plummeting by more than 99%.
