Odissi dancer Durga Charan Ranbir has been awarded Padma Shri. Trained under Debaprasad Das and Pankaj Charan Das, he follows the style of his guru and has received the Orissa Sangeet Natak Akademi Award. The Padma Awards, instituted in 1954, are India's highest civilian honors, recognizing achievements in various fields with an element of public service.
