đź’¨ Abstract
Boston University researchers discovered that bacteria exposed to microplastics became resistant to various antibiotics commonly used to treat infections. Microplastics are small shards of plastic debris found everywhere, including inside our bodies. The study, published in Applied and Environmental Microbiology, suggests this could pose a higher risk in impoverished communities where sanitation is limited and bacterial infections spread easily.
