💨 Abstract
Scientists have engineered the most complex human cell lines to date, demonstrating our genomes can tolerate significant structural changes, including large deletions of genetic code, as long as essential genes remain intact. This study paves the way for understanding the role of structural variation in disease. The research was conducted using CRISPR prime editing, inserting recognition sequences into human cell lines to 'shuffle' the genome and create thousands of structural variants.
