The Delhi District Consumer Dispute Redressal Commission has ordered United India Insurance Company to reimburse Rs 13,525 in medical expenses and provide a Rs 5,000 compensation for mental distress, as the insurer rejected a claim due to less than 24 hours of hospitalization. The commission found that the 24-hour clause should be interpreted flexibly, considering emergency treatments and advancements in medical technology.
