Over the past two years, at least 286 lions, including 143 cubs, and 456 leopards, including 140 cubs, have died in Gujarat, India. The lion deaths, of which 58 were due to unnatural causes, were reported in the Gir Wildlife Sanctuary, home to the world's last abode of Asiatic lions.
