Two men, Harshkumar Ramanlal Patel and Steve Shand, are on trial in Minnesota for human trafficking, culpable homicide, and criminal conspiracy charges. They allegedly ran an international trafficking racket that preyed on the aspirations of families, including the Gujarati family of Jagdish Patel, who froze to death while trying to cross into the U.S. from Canada in 2022.
