In Assam, the first phase of panchayat elections recorded a voter turnout of 70.2%. The polls were held at 12,916 booths in 14 districts, with 89.59 lakh eligible voters. A few incidents of violence were reported, but overall, the voting was peaceful. The second phase of voting will take place on May 7, followed by counting on May 11.
