On the 20th anniversary of the 2004 Tsunami, a survivor named Sowmya, now a mother, was celebrated in Nagapattinam, Tamil Nadu. Sowmya, rescued as a child, was adopted by IAS official Dr J Radhakrishnan and completed her BA in Economics. She married a technician in 2022 and had a girl child in October.
