đź’¨ Abstract
In January 2024, the Indian government closed 199 District Agrometeorological Units (DAMUs), leaving around 130 employees unpaid but committed to their roles due to farmers' reliance on their weather advice. Despite hardships, they continued working to help farmers navigate worsening weather and climate risks. After a year of sacrifices and resilience, their salaries were released in March 2023 following court intervention.
