Maharashtra Deputy CM Eknath Shinde called for severe punishment, including the death sentence, for those involved in the murder of sarpanch Santosh Deshmukh in Beed district. Deshmukh was allegedly killed by criminals attempting to extort money from an energy company. Walmik Karad, a close aide of NCP minister Dhananjay Munde, was arrested in connection with the case.
