💨 Abstract

Jayant Narlikar, a renowned astrophysicist, passed away at 86 in Pune. He was known for co-developing the Hoyle–Narlikar theory of gravity, an alternative to Einstein’s general relativity, and for popularizing science. Narlikar also championed the steady-state theory of the universe. He was the founder-director of the Inter-University Centre for Astronomy and Astrophysics (IUCAA).
