Puducherry Chief Minister N Rangasamy announced a plan to distribute 10kg rice and 2kg sugar, free of cost, to card holders under the public distribution system before Diwali. The decision was made due to requests from various quarters. The ration shops, closed for months, will be reopened for the distribution. Workers in fair price shops who are unpaid for months will receive a month's salary upon reopening.
