American defense company GE Aerospace has delivered the first of 99 F-404 aircraft engines to the Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) for the Tejas light combat jet programme. The engines are for the Mk-1A variant of the Tejas jets, which are part of a Rs 48,000 crore deal between the defense ministry and HAL. Deliveries were scheduled to start last year but have been delayed.
