On May 8, a helicopter en route to Gangotri temple crashed near Gangnani in Uttarkashi district, killing six people, including the pilot and five female pilgrims. The helicopter, carrying seven people, fell into a 200-250 meter deep gorge. One passenger, M. Bhaskar from Andhra Pradesh, was seriously injured and airlifted to AIIMS, Rishikesh.
