Manmohan Singh, the former Prime Minister of India, spent his childhood years in Amritsar, where he completed his schooling and graduated in economics from Hindu College. He had a deep affection for his grandmother who raised him after his mother's death. Singh, known for his humility, lived near the Golden Temple in Amritsar and was remembered by locals as a man who took special care of the city.
