💨 Abstract
The new Pamban Bridge in Rameshwaram, Tamil Nadu, has been designed to withstand cyclones of greater intensity than the 1964 cyclone that damaged the old bridge. The bridge can withstand wind speeds of 230 kmph and significant seismic loading. The girders on the concrete pillars are 4.8 meters high from the sea water level, minimizing the risk of water damage during high tide.
