The Shankaracharya of Jyotish Peeth, Avimukteshwaranand Saraswati, has announced plans to establish one lakh cowsheds across India for the protection of cows, which are worshipped by Hindus. The seer expressed dismay that cow slaughter has not been banned since India's independence, and called for a law to punish offenders.
