💨 Abstract
The Allahabad High Court has pointed out that while Islam allows multiple marriages under specific conditions, these are often misused. Justice Arun Kumar Singh Deshwal noted that polygamy was historically permitted to protect widows and orphans but is now often exploited for personal gain. The court clarified that a Muslim man's second marriage is only void and punishable under Section 494 of the IPC if his first marriage was conducted under different legal frameworks.
