On February 8, soldiers on patrolling duty in Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir were fired upon from across the Line of Control. No casualties were reported, and an alert was issued for increased vigilance. The firing appeared to be a prelude to an attempt by suspected terrorists to infiltrate from Pakistan. Indian troops retaliated and strengthened the anti-infiltration grid in the area.
