đź’¨ Abstract
The Supreme Court criticized state governments for allegedly prioritizing freebies over salaries and pensions for district judges. The court stated that states have sufficient funds to provide freebies but claim financial constraints in paying judicial salaries and pensions. The observation was made during a hearing of a 2015 plea by the All India Judges Association regarding pensions for retired judges.
