Former Goa RSS chief Subhash Velingkar, who recently received anticipatory bail, criticized successive governments for failing to restore the state's identity, which he believes was spoiled during Portuguese rule. He referenced the Portuguese Inquisition's torture of his ancestors and the Portuguese attempt to change Goa's cultural identity. He claimed that the post-liberation governments did not reestablish the original identity of the state.
