💨 Abstract
The Supreme Court of India has directed the Union government to consult experts on revising the 2017 blood donation guidelines, which ban blood donations from trans people, gay men, and sex workers. The court deemed these guidelines discriminatory and stigmatizing, noting that labeling entire communities as high-risk for HIV/AIDS is unjustified. Justice Surya Kant and Justice N Kotiswar Singh urged the government to find a way to lift these restrictions without compromising medical safety.
